Basel 2018 - 1st International Forum of EYP Switzerland

05/04/2018 to 12/04/2018

Innovation Building the Framework for Tomorrow.

Basel 2018 - First International Forum of EYP Switzerland will focus on innovation as a driver of a safe, healthy, sustainable and, most importantly, happy future. During the session, participants will focus on the three milestones of every innovative idea: Getting the right people into the appropriate setting to encourage innovative creations, ensuring the knowledge behind the idea is transmitted for further development and making sure that the resulting creation can be put to use where it is most needed. Ideas for possible ways to improve our present and our future are everywhere and young people are most capable to see and use those ideas. With Switzerland considered to be the most innovative nation in the world and Basel being the hub for innovation within the country, we are sure to be able to create the perfect setting for new and creative approaches for ensuring a brighter future for everybody.

It has been one month since the #ifbasel18 Opening Ceremony. It might feel like an eternity ago, or maybe like it was yesterday. Nonetheless, today we are making the final post of the Basel Media Team, the session picture!

Dear Basel,
Thank you.

There was a certain kind of food that was the talk of the session from the moment it was introduced by Aijan Muktar during the #ifbasel18 NovaLab. You guessed it, we're talking about insect food!

Thanks to Essento, all participants of the session were given the opportunity to give insect food a try, and many of them were indeed impressed by the flavour, despite the initial skepticism.

Essento is a Swiss company dedicated to sustainable forms of nourishment. They produce insect balls and burgers out of mealworms, as well as other products such as insect energy bars!

Coffee Breaks during #ifbasel18 certainly wouldn't have been as diverse in food offerings as they were without the help of in-kind sponsorships.

We'd especially like to thank Jenzer, a company with over 100 years of history, based in the Basel canton, for all the delicious sausages provided to the session!

Tears, laughter, hugs, smiles. All of these emotions, completely unfiltered. That's what the Closing Ceremony of #ifbasel18 was about. After the delivery of some wonderful speeches by NC President Anna Zellweger, Head Organisers Kate Gurevich and Allegra Margelisch, Editors David Corish and Laure Steinville, as well as the session President, Hugo Dürr, the ceremony was rounded off with the farewell video and a live performance of the European Anthem on flute by Alise Golovacka.

During the last few days of the session Sara Kalli from the Media Team explored the connections we make with others and what they mean to us. What makes you feel connected to people?

The wait has been long, but they're finally here! The portrait pictures you've all been waiting for! During General Assembly, the Basel Media Team gave the participants the opportunity to have their profile pictures taken during coffee breaks and lucnh. Here's the final result.

A project by Cian Horgan.

During the coffee breaks happening between General Assembly debates, besides the usual coffee and snacks, participants had the chance to take group pictures in committees, delegations, or simply with other friends from the session.

The few days after the end of a session are a good time to reflect on what has happened and how that will shape one in the future. After the farewell video, the Basel Media Team would like to deliver to you another piece of output which is sure to induce a lot of reflective and nostalgic thoughts on the session. Final speeches, final thoughts, final sessions, all of the above in this final podcast. Make sure to give it a listen!

Brought to you by Alise Golovacka.

During #ifbasel18, we were on a boat! This evening event proved to be one of the favorites among all participants, as they were able to have dinner together in teams, enjoy the wonderful view of the Rhine river from the deck, as well as cross a three-country border (German-Swiss-French)!

As every other EYP session, the official programme was rounded off with the General Assembly, which took place during the two final days of #ifbasel18. The GA procedure proved to be especially interesting because of the introduction of amendments, position speeches in place of attack speeches, and dynamic resolutions. All these changes brought a breath of fresh air into the debates and made them more constructive.
