in Latvia

Taste The Culture

The 30th Regional Session of EYP Latvia will be held between the 19th and 23rd of October, 2018. Around 100 delegates from all over Latvia and Europe will come together, to experience EYP and take part in a five day packed programme and to immerse in the topic of multiculturalism in the modern world. Session will be head organised by Laura Polkmane and Jānis Vēveris, and will be presided by Gustav Dahlquist from Sweden.
Session theme is "Taste The Culture", our sessions main goal is to gather a number of many young people that see culture as a way of connecting rather than viewing it as a barrier and Saldus 2018 will include many session elements and activities revolving around cultural things. Session will begin with Teambuilding, comprise two days of Committee Work and conclude with the General Assembly. A unique addition to the program is a day that the Saldus 2018 participants will spend experiencing culture through workshops.

Saldus 2018 will be a one of a kind EYP event, full of new conceptions, wonderful people and exceptional vibe of culture.

As many of the participants of Saldus'18 were first-time delegates, Elizabete Ronija Dreimane decided to make a video recapping the session elements as well as introducing the leadership of the session.

"I asked some delegates which culture they would like to taste, as well as what certain representatives like the best about their countrys’ culture. I think a person can taste culture in several ways, one of them can be done quite literally- by tasting the national foods. The other option is to experience the elements of nature, art or music that the natives enjoy. To taste the culture means to try to experience it fully!"

Each individual has a unique personality as well as beliefs, that's why I wanted to create a platform to express the opinions of the participants of Saldus'18 about meaningful questions. I believe this is something that we should do more often - talk about life, every aspect of it and our emotions.

On the last two days of the session, the participants of Saldus 2018 partook in the General Assembly. During it, the committees defended the resolutions they had crafted throughout the session.

We would like to thank the special guest speakers:

Tatjana Mozžuhina (Assistant Political Officer of the Embassy of Sweden)

Māris Zusts (Mayor of Saldus)

Mārtiņš Bērtulis (Headmaster of the Saldus art and music school)

Liene Cakare (EY Law Services Lead Attorney at Law)

Everyone has their own happiness. We asked the participants of the session how they would visually represent happiness. It’s drawn in a stylized way and as if it’s surrounding them.

Music is one of the things that unites people from different backgrounds. Music develops a special meaning in our lives starting our first days with our parents singing us lullabies. We grow up listening to different types of songs: sad, happy, with a deep meaning and sometimes without meaning. But in the end, even these meaningless songs can connect us with a special memory, story or person. Music unites us all together, our thoughts, desires, beliefs, and wishes.

The day before the GA the participants had time to relax and learn some new skills in our workshops.

The first workshop was led by the amazing Mārtiņš Hiršs and it focused on critical thinking.

The second workshop was led by the marvelous Vilhelms Karlsons and it concentrated on improvisational theater.

And the very last workshop was led by our very own session president- Gustav Dahlquist which informed the delegates about what the European Youth Parliament is and what benefits it has!

Thank you to all of these amazing speakers!
